The ancient art of casting metal from a mold is getting a modern twist thanks to the die-cast style lapel pins.
Die-cast pins most definitely take your love and use for enamel pins to a whole new level. It goes against the norm and shows that lapel pins do not have to be just standard round or square shaped lapel pins. Instead, think holes, cutouts, intricate shapes and more. In other words, die-cast pins give you the option of going into a very different dimension of enamel pins.
That being said, die-cast pins can be a superb choice for you when you have a 3D design that you want to show off and stand out from the crowd. The fact that shape and style aren’t an issue makes it a lot easier to make cutout letters or even reproduce a 3D effect.
A die-cast pin, especially if it is 3D, will have multiple surface levels at various angles to create a 3D look and feel. This is particularly important if you want an enamel pin that offers a unique and elegant appearance with quality like no other.
We have to emphasize that it is the cutouts that make die-cast pins quite unique. If your design or logo requires cutouts, the die-cast style is perfect for you. It is a casting method rather than stamping method that allows this flexibility. By pouring liquid metal into a mold it is not limited to shape.
Honestly speaking, the die-cast process is more expensive and therefore only needs to be used if cutouts are needed. Otherwise use the less expensive die struck method. Just like die struck pins, enamel can also be added to die cast pins giving them all the same flexibility in color and design as die struck pins. The reality is, except for the cutouts, die cast pins are not distinguishable in any other way from die struck pins.
So if you want to display an elaborate logo or design that requires cutouts, letters, unusual shapes, or even unique replicas, die-cast pins are the way to go.
A die cast and die struck pin may look exactly the same when finished but they are produced in a vary different way. Die cast lapel pins are formed by pouring liquid metal into a mold while a die struck pin is formed by pressing a die into a thin sheet of metal. It is the difference in the process that gives them their unique strengths.
Die cast pin's unique calling card is inner cutouts while die struck pins unique difference is a heavier feel because of the metal used. Both have their place in the world of pins, but in reality without a trained eye most people would not know the difference between the two types. The only other difference is price. Die cast pins are a little more expensive than die struck pins.
To make a die cast lapel pin, a custom mold is first created. Then liquid zinc alloy is injected into the mold to form the design and left to cool and harden. Once hardened and removed from the mold, die cast pins can have enamel added to create a hard or soft enamel die cast pin.
